Our Christmas

On Christmas Eve we had a few errands to run, wow was it insane out there.

Apparently a lot of hunters are Christmas Eve shoppers.
Saw a lot of plaid.
Heard a lot of conversations that went something like this:
"Did you get anything this year?"
"Naw, I went out with Bob a few times though"
"Bob! Bob shoots anything that moves! I wouldn't go out with Bob!"
"Naw, Bob didn't git nuttin'."
"Once I get this shoppin' done, I'm going out again.... The old lady wanted some slippers."

I guess the woods are safe on Christmas least until the stores close. ;-)
But seriously, the express check-out lanes had longer lines than the regular check-out lanes...and the toy aisles were a wreck. Grocery shopping was only slightly better, but the traffic was crazy.

Christmas morning we enjoyed both blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes and a hash brown scramble. I colored the pancakes with red food coloring and that was enough to get Shiloh interested in eating even with all the Christmas excitement. Pink pancakes! Like a Princess would eat! :)

Unfortunately Shiloh was scared when she opened up a gift from one of DH's coworkers which turned out to be the "Little Mommy Baby Knows" doll.

It sings and talks in two different languages.Shiloh opened up the package...saw the legs and the doll started talking and it totally freaked her out!

She ran behind me so fast that she left her shoe behind, and wouldn't come out from behind me until DH put the doll away upstairs and told her he threw it away. (We returned the doll to the store today and we'll get her something less traumatizing).

I didn't realize how badly it scared her, but even today she doesn't want to see any packages, and doesn't even like the picture of the doll (when I was searching for it to put on here).

Something "chucky-ish" in those eyes, I guess?

We had a nice family gathering at my parents. A delicious ham dinner and a great time visiting, and an overabundance of gifts. :)

We took down the Christmas tree yesterday...needed the room for the girls' toys! :) We set up the girls' kitchen and they got a bunch of play food so we've been having a lot of fun. There is a slice of American cheese and it looks sooo real! I was asking the girls who left a piece of cheese in the living room...then I realized it was plastic! lol

Then later on, Shiloh comes to me complaining that the cheese is hard and she can't eat it and she was trying to chew on it! :-D

Big News! Vivian pooped on the potty!! At 18 months old!! She did that this morning, and we made a big celebration about it. yay!!! :)

Sugar high for the eyes

My Christmas baking is completed! Yay!

I made Santa's Thumbprints... (also pictured are sugar cookies before the frosting)

The large sugar cookies decorated....

The smaller sugar cookies, and my Christmas caterpillar/butterfly/maybe cat-like things... (uh, my snowman shapes looked a little crooked and butter shortening doesn't make white, white frosting...and dingy-white, crooked, snowmen are not really that appealing. So Ta da! The creation of the Christmas caterpillar!)

Cranberry Chocolate-Chip cookies....yum!

Chocolate Biscotti! (picture looks a little funny, but they really do look nice)

I also made Cheesecake brownies. Started to run out of pans and containers and counter space!
Is your mouth watering yet? :-)
Shiloh had one small...very small, frosted sugar cookie and she was bouncing off the walls!
Maybe that's why the children in the story just has visions of sugar plums in their heads...if they had actually eaten the sugarplums, they wouldn't have been nestled all snug in their beds, they would have been bouncing off the walls in a sugar high and that doesn't really sound like a nice Christmas does it?

Christmas Chaos

Today marks one week since I weaned Vivian.
She is eating foods and drinking milk and water really well now. She does tend to wake up when DH gets home and she is starving for a late-night dinner then, and sometimes she wakes up early in the morning really thirsty (she gets water).

I am still in pain, can't lay on either side or my belly at night, and still have the ability to flood all land below sea-level.
Not sure how long this will last...

I'm in the final Christmas crunch now. Wrapped a bunch of presents, and made four different varieties of cookies...but I still have more presents left to wrap and more cookies to bake and lots of cookie decorating left to do.
Somewhere around about the time that Vivian grabbed a container of Ovaltine and tried to use it as a stool to reach the Christmas village....I realized that I have no time to fiddle with cookies shaped like Christmas trees, stars, angels, or little men, etc.
Soooo my cookies are all shaped like snowballs, the sun, the moon, wheels, oranges, the globe....(you get the idea)

After all my baking is done, my kitchen floor will need a thorough vacuuming and scrubbing not just because of the inevitable flour and sugar that end up there during a busy baking day....but also because Shiloh was prancing like a fairy and bumped into Vivian's bowl of cereal which exploded everywhere.
(thankfully no milk was involved!!!!)

Shiloh was telling me earlier today that she didn't want any "quinnins".
O-k-a-y, I don't know what a quinnin is sooo you don't have to have any.
Then she went on and on about how Bibian was eating quinnins but she didn't want to eat quinnins.
Vivian was eating raisins. lol. (yes, finally one of my children will eat raisins!)

Shiloh was sitting her bath tonight and she said "Ho, Ho, Ho! hear it? what is it?"
"I don't know, Shi, what is it?"
"It's a flying reindeer!" :-D

She's always coming up with something.
After she had a bm the other day, she looked in the toilet and said "Mama, it looks like eels!"
We saw quite a few...uh, muddy-looking eels in Singapore....ah, memories. lol

Dental drive

Vivian is doing pretty well with weaning, she took a decent nap yesterday and her bedtime was in a normal time span.
She woke up fussing around 4am but fell back asleep easier than the day before so things are progressing well with weaning.

Early this morning was her dentist appt.
Thankfully the roads were clear and the weather calm....though bitter cold!
I was able to find the dentist's office without too much trouble, despite driving unfamiliar roads in the dark (we were up before the sun).

Her appt. went very well. She was so good too...happy and pointing out her body parts, bouncing to the Christmas music they had playing and clapping her hands.
She received a quick fluoride treatment and we're just going to be keeping a watchful eye on her teeth. She doesn't need to have them checked again until March. Yay!

While we were at the dentist's office, a little girl came in with a Christmas-related dental problem. She was only about 3-4yrs. old, but very petite and fine-boned...and just adorable.
Apparently a little boy was pretending his candy cane was a sword and poked her in the mouth, which bloodied her lip and chipped her tooth! Poor thing.

Afterwards we went to Target so we could get some stuff we needed and pick up the Fluoride rinse that the dentist recommended for both girls. I never would have bought it otherwise as it says for ages 6 and up!
For Vivi, I'm supposed to use a cotton swab to apply it to her teeth. Shiloh is supposed to swish it around her mouth and spit it out. It has a bubblegum flavor and I cannot see getting her to spit it least not yet as we've not even practiced her spitting out anything.
So after brushing, I just dipped her toothbrush into a little of the rinse and brushed it on her teeth...hopefully that will work enough for now.

Shiloh has been wearing a lot of dresses paired with jeans. She loves wearing dresses but it's just so cold! (-3 here this morning) Whenever Shiloh wears a dress she thinks it makes her an instant Princess.

I asked her to help pick up books that Vivian had taken off the shelf. "Princesses pick up books?" she asked

"Yes, they do."

As soon as she had the books picked up, Vivian came around and started bringing them out again.

Shiloh runs over shouting "Bibian! Bibian! I watchin' you!"

She knows if you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake! :-D

Looking for a rainbow

Today Vivian is 18 months old. 1 1/2 years!
The time flies when you have children, I guess there's no way around that. They just change and learn and grow so much in a tiny span of time.
Today is also our first full day of weaning.
It's bittersweet. I do love nursing and the bonding. Today was the first day she didn't have that sweet milky breath that I adore.
She smelled like bananas and animal crackers...which is also endearing in its own way.

I'm trying to focus on the positives of weaning though.
I realized that I have been either pregnant, pregnant and nursing, or just breastfeeding for the entire past 4 years!
I think my body does deserve a little rest and time to just take care of itself.
Four years.
I can wear dresses again (if I can find them, they are so buried in my closet).
Nightgowns, and snug shirts, and real, real, bras!
If I'm ill....I can take medicine! Real medicine...the wonderful kind that knocks you right out!
I can pile on the scented lotions and perfumes, normally people can still wear those and nurse but with both girls having eczema problems and the close contact of nursing, I was pretty cautious with applying those.

Once my own Niagara falls has dried up, I'll be able to enjoy oatmeal again and especially oatmeal cookies without fear of flooding the earth in a milk bath.

Vivi is doing well. She fell asleep surprisingly easy tonight.
She can say "cheese" now and asks for that when she wants. Still having trouble getting her to like cow's milk, with or without Ovaltine depends on her mood. She loves water though and the list of foods that she likes is increasingly daily.

Vivi has a dentist appt. tomorrow. A few of her teeth are suffering from her frequent night nursings. I feel horrible about it, if I knew I could/would have prevented this.
Both of my girls have been boob-aholics, and loved nursing above other foods and drinks.
Vivi is a bit more extreme I think because of her personality. At 18 months old she is soo much more of a baby than Shiloh was at 12mos.
Her temper at having her milk denied her...not so much baby though! Whew!
We're weaning cold-turkey, rough on Mama's body but I think the easiest for Vivi to understand at her age and with her personality.
It would tick her off more to be allowed to nurse sometimes but then denied other times. We'll just push through and get it done all at once.
I'm trying sage and peppermint teas to hopefully help dry up the fountains more quickly and easily.
Just in case though...anybody know where I can get an ark?

An elf's work is never done...

Yesterday it snowed and then snowed some more. Today it's mostly windy but we did get a few flurries too.

So after my sleep-deprived night/day yesterday...What did I do but stay up until 2am helping DH assemble the girls' kitchen set for Christmas!
Surprisingly, I'm not as exhausted as I thought I would be. Coffee is good. :)

I figured out why the kitchen was soo inexpensive...they didn't do squat at the factory! Every little, itty-bitty piece required assembly!
Vivi was awake, off and on, during that time since her teeth were bothering her so she got a little playing time with the set before we tucked it away until Christmas.
The set has little red stovetop burners that light up when you turn the knob. (Of course all Christmas toys require's a given!)
Vivi kept turning the knob to light up the burners, then when they glowed she'd start blowing on the burners until the light went out again.
It was so funny!

I had to run out to the bank this morning and since it was bitter cold and windy, I decided to go through the drive-thru which I haven't done in ages.
Instead of the nice simple drawer that rolls out from the teller they have a new drawer, it's hard to explain but the sides open up and this metal shelf rolls towards you.
All I could think it that it looked like the mouth of a vampire from Blade 3.

"Please don't eat my arm! It's a deposit!!!!"

Needless to say, I think I'll do my banking inside from now on...
((I couldn't find a picture of the shelf to show here...I can find a picture of the vampire, but it's just too scary))

I was trying to take a picture of our Christmas tree without flash...when Vivi bumped my arm. lol
Presenting the Neon-Electric-Worm Tree!

Today we also changed the girls' beds. Moving Vivian from a crib to a toddler bed and moving Shiloh from a toddler bed to the daybed (that the crib converts into).
Shiloh took her nap in her bed and seems to love it. She thought it was a gift for Christmas so she kept saying "Oh thank you! Merry Christmas!" :)

Hopefully Vivi will like her new bed too.

Snow storm

A winter storm came rolling in today...
I was able to watch it come in since Shiloh woke me up several times between 2:30-4:30....then Vivi suddenly woke for the day at not quite 6:30 but I was able to get her to fall back asleep with me on the couch until DH accidentally woke us by starting the coffee pot (he wanted to get an early start on the shoveling and snowblowing).
I woke in a panic because I smelled coffee and heard it brewing and I knew I didn't put the pot in the maker and thought it started brewing itself. lol
That's a fun way to wake up...picturing coffee pouring down my counters and floor. ;-P

Vivian has started saying "Mama, Mama" in her sleep. She says it very softly so it's cute, but ugh...hope that doesn't continue.
Nothing like waking from a sound sleep to attend to your child's cries....just to find out they are still asleep!

Anyways, all that lack of sleep led to a nasty migraine for a good part of the day. We got quite a bit of snow too from the storm making me so very, very thankful that I did not have any pressing reasons to drive around in it.
The girls loved to watch the snow though, it was a bit too cold to take them out in it today but maybe tomorrow.
I'm eager to see how Vivi likes it since she was so young the last time we had snow. :)

Celebrate good times

Today is....My Mom's Birthday! yay!
Happy Birthday Mom, love you infinity! (that's what I say to Shiloh all the time :)

Today is the 1 year anniversary of our house closing! yay!
What a whirlwind year too, and this house has been a wonderful place for us and has comfortably turned into our home.

Today is also (according to Shiloh) "Happy Table Day". lol
She keeps saying that all day "Happy Table Day, Mama! Happy Table Day!"
Too cute!

My chair cushions finally arrived today along with the table pad so now we can really get to using the table.
The cushions are a little firmer than I would like but I'm hoping they'll soften up with use. The pattern is nice though and goes well with the bench cushion and other decor.
The holiday tablecloths I ordered are much cheaper quality than I expected, so instead of getting a great deal on those....I really got what I paid for (which wasn't much at all) so if they last through the holidays that will be fine.

Shiloh's hightops came in as well, and she l-o-v-e-s them. They are a bit big on her but stay on fine since they are hightops. I didn't really pay attention to the full retail price of them since they were reasonable and she needs them....but the Black Friday sale was pretty good and they were $9 less than the price tag that was attached to them!

All in all, I am not sold 100% on online has its pluses and negatives.
I probably wouldn't have bothered purchasing the tablecloths (though they are cute) if I had been able to see in my hand what quality/type they were...and my delivery was a day late which is a bit of a pain, but on the other hand I didn't have to battle crowds or drag hungry kids through over-heated stores so there are benefits as well.

We took the girls out shopping the other day and it was soo hot in that store. Vivi fought sleep for a long time, but then she was just so heavy when she did fall asleep. I haven't weighed her recently but it was really bothering my back carrying her then Mommy was not really in a shopping mood any longer.
Vivian stayed asleep when we put her in her carseat so our next stop, the grocery store, just DH went in with my grocery list while I stayed with the girls in the car so Vivi could sleep. She's been crabby with her teeth...and you just don't poke a sleeping bear! ;-)

Then I called DH's cellphone to ask him to also grab some tuna fish and cream soup so I could make Shiloh more catfood Tuna noodle casserole.
Next thing he's asking where the raisins are...
Me: near the door on the right side.
DH: which side?
Me: which way are you facing...the door?
DH: I'm at the door
Me: They're next to the chocolate chips
DH: where are those? you want chocolate chips?
Me: (thinking how can I be married to a man who doesn't know where the chocolate chips are located!): they're across from the cereal..
DH: I'm near the sugar, which side are the raisins on? I found them! You wanted golden right?
Me: No...the red box, just plain raisins....(daylight dawns) Oh my! We are the annoying shoppers right now!

It's here! It's here!

The new table was delivered this morning!
It arrived during a drizzling rain but a lot of it was wrapped up so everything didn't get too wet.
The delivery men brought the bench in first and Shiloh said "Oooh, our new table is here!" and ran over to touch it and inspect it. lol
It is table-sized to her! :)

Here are the pictures...first of all, a photo of our old table and folding chairs, which served us well and much longer than ever intended...nearly 5 1/2 years.
So you can see why I have been so excited about getting our new table set.
Plus (though it's often covered with a tablecloth) cleaning that glass top and bottom of a multitude of tiny fingerprints grows weary.

The new rug and the girls enjoying the open space to play while we await the table delivery. (Vivi can climb onto the windowseat by herself now..ugh)

And....Ta Da!!

My expected delivery of the chair pads and table pad has been delayed until tomorrow so I have to wait for those, but we still enjoyed our dinner at the table tonight.
The bench is really quite little family of four can seat all of us easily on just the bench itself without being crowded and it's so stable too.
Shi was always bumping into the old table and spilling the drinks that were on it, this one is much more steady and gives her a lot more room for laying out her coloring books etc. while we still have room to eat too. :D

Wednesdays with Shiloh

After breakfast this morning, DH and I put away our old table and (folding) chairs, vacuumed and removed the old rug in preparations for our table delivery tomorrow.
We still have the barstools and countertops for eating our meals until the table arrives and Vivi eats in a highchair anyways so it's not too much of a hassle to have it put away this early....and the kiddos love the open space to play in.

We played with their bowling set earlier in the empty area (until Mommy got tired of constantly setting up the pins). Vivi loves to walk into the pins and knock them down and Shiloh just can't bowl for beans.
It was very amusing, she'd be just inches from the pins and still miss ALL of the pins when she threw the ball.
I tried to show her how to hold the bowling ball properly and somehow, instead of helping, that made her throw it over her shoulder...

Shiloh also already gave herself a fat lip by running, tripping, and crashing into her toy chair. She let me hold some crushed ice (I love having an ice maker!!!) to her lip though and told me right away that M&M's would make her feel much better. ;-)
By the time an hour had passed any swelling of her lip was barely noticeable....must be the magic of M&M's! :)

For her second breakfast of the day, Shi was looking at the cereal boxes trying to decide which one she wanted.
Then she pointed at the picture of cinnamon sticks on one box.
"Yum, i want those!"
"No, that's not cereal...those are cinnamon sticks"
"i wanta cinna-sticks! Mmm!"
"Uh no, those would taste you want the cereal on the box though?"
Shiloh settled for the cereal on the box, and I had to pour a little dish for Vivian as well.
"Don't drop your cereal, Dada just vacuumed"
C-R-A-S-H!!!!! Vivi drops her cereal before the words have left my mouth.
She bursts into tears.
All this before 10:30am too....
Gotta say I love my little dustbuster, especially when Vivi is afraid of the big vacuum it works sooo well on those little messes...or big messes.

I just called the furniture store to confirm our table delivery for tomorrow and we are their first stop in the morning so...maybe we'll be able to have tomorrows breakfast at our new table! (or at least one of Shiloh's breakfasts will be at the new table)
So exciting!

Both girls are napping now, so I wanted to use this time to make some cookies.
When I got Shiloh ready for her nap, I took her to the bathroom and I'm waiting for her to finish her business and she looks at me...
"wat doing here, Mom? wat doing here?"
"Um, I'm helping you go potty"
"Ohhh, I have toes Mom...see?" She wiggles her toes.
She is such a funny kid. :)

Shiloh is a chatterbox!
Her opinion changes often, and she's learning new words so she likes to practice them, she also loves to use a person's name frequently in conversations.
Some of her words/sentences are a little harder to decipher than others....

Like when she told me she didn't like the "Head Doctor".
No000, I guess I wouldn't like a Head Doctor either??
Ohhhhh...not Head Doctor, "Helicopter!"

"Mama! Mama! No tictoe tat! No tictoe tat!" (no tickle cat)
Shiloh still loves to pretend she's a cat and occasionally a puppy on a daily basis.
I made a tuna noodle casserole for dinner tonight, and Vivi and I were enjoying it but Shi didn't even want to try it.
So I said "...Are you a kittycat? Cats just love tunafish!"

Next thing, she's digging in with gusto. She even asked for seconds!
(I put crumbled "Garden Roasted Vegetable" flavored Ritz on top and that made it soo delicious!)

Then she said "Yum Mom! bery good cat food! Yum! i lika cat food!"
LOL, what a kid! (as long as she doesn't repeat that when we're out and about...we're good) ;-)

Not Me, Monday!

Things that we did Not do this week...
When DH showed me the latest bit of electronic equipment he has added to the household, and pointed out the hand-dandy slot for an sd card.
I certainly did not note that the slot would easily fit a wheat cracker that the girls are fond of...or even better, a plastic fork from their play food sets.
No, Not Me!
I certainly do not still have a bag of winter clothes sitting in the bottom of my closet. No, I long ago washed and folded and put away my clothes...neatly.
And, I would never sneeze so loudly that I would startle Vivian badly enough that she would toss her toy straight in the air and burst into tears...
No, Not Me! I always have a lady-like, delicate, sneeze. Ahem!
My 1yr. old did not scream while I was in the shower, so that I had to run into her room dripping and soapy and clad only in a find that she was screaming for no apparent reason.
Then my 3yr. old told me I looked beautiful, which did not make it all better...well, once I got the shampoo out of my eyes. ;-)
When DH called to tell me that his aunt and uncle were stopping over at our house in a few minutes, I did not quickly straighten up the house except for the laundry room...only to have them walk right into the laundry room.
No, that did not happen.
There also did not also happen to be a huge load of laundry drying in there.
No, that wouldn't happen to me...No, Not Me!

Shopping (sans crowds)

I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving as much as I did. :)
Always so good to enjoy my Mom's cooking...and vast amounts of it at that!

Vivi was refusing to eat until I shoved a bit of mandarin orange in her mouth, after that she ate pretty well and tried some stuffing and sweet potatoes and more oranges and mixed fruit.
She also took a nice long nap on the couch next to my Grandma, while the other children ran around.
Shi didn't all, not even on the car ride home.
Oddly enough, she gets rather hyper when she's overtired....then crashes.
She slept for 13 hours last night! She had to make up for missing her usual long naps.

Our table has been delivered to the furniture store! I'm so excited, I want to run over to the store and just look at it. lol.
It's not being delivered *here* until next week though, because DH wants to be here when it arrives...which I do appreciate but still, I'm impatient.
It did give me time to finish up my extra shopping today though and take advantage of some good online deals.
I'm not one to venture out on Black Friday...especially with the crowds and swine flu so rampant here.

I was able to get the rest of the chair cushions and a pad to protect the table (goes under the tablecloth) with free shipping so that was really nice.
I also bought some shoes for Shiloh online. I'm a bit nervous about that since she doesn't get to try them on, but I got her a larger size to allow for comfort/growth/and manufacturing differences and they have "Dora" on them so she'll be happy with the appearance aspect of them as well.
They're also hightops so hopefully we won't have so many occurrences of shoes falling off, plus I love the nostalgia. :)
I loved my first hightops, I thought they were so cool and I still remember that. lol.
In retrospect they probably made me look really short, especially since I'm not that tall to begin with...but I can't very well get Shi some platforms so we'll stick with the Dora hightops for now.

More Christmas prep

Vivian's two molars are coming in nicely now.
One is almost fully in and the other close behind it. I checked her teeth the other day to see how well they were doing and discovered now her whole upper gum is swollen and lumpy.
I almost cried. :(
The gum is so swollen that I can't even determine which teeth are really the cause, molars or canines...or maybe just the whole caboodle.
I was sooooooooooo hoping that any additional teething would wait until after Christmas.
It really seemed to start bothering her yesterday and since then she's been gnawing on frozen washcloths and velcroed to my leg, and just pretty irritable.

At least she's still been eating pretty well. She loves mini cheese rice cakes and still is a fan of pasta.

We had to run out to the post office this morning and there had to be at least 6 people lined up by the door before they opened! 'Tis the season!
I managed to finish my Christmas decorating today while Shiloh napped, and even took the girls Christmas pictures.
Many, many, outtakes....some tears (Vivi burst into tears when I took her off the couch ever so briefly), and maybe somewhere in the jumble...a usable picture, dare I hope?

Not Me, Monday!

It's Not Me, Monday time again. yay!
Some things that we have "not" been doing...

While shopping this week for a dining set, I certainly did Not crawl under any tables to read the labels pasted underneath....No, Not Me!

I also did Not send our salesman off to search on random prices so that DH and I could talk alone without a salesman hovering over our shoulders, and I certainly did not think for even a second, the totally random thought....when I noted our new table would "only" seat 6-7 people...but what if I have triplets then what will I do?
...which then did not send me into a panic about any possibility of ever having triplets...Not Me!

I am Not now super-impatient for my new table set...and I also did not already purchase cushions and tablecloths for a table that hasn't arrived yet...Noooo.

While preparing for my Dad's birthday party, my Mom and I certainly Did Not make matching cakes without each other knowing, the same colors and even same writing and styles...

I also certainly did not eat a bowl of ice cream when it was in the 30-40's outside and then huddle under a huge blanket next to the heater because I was cold...No, Not Me!

I'm not just a member...

I am a part of a secret club.
A club mostly unknown by people who don't have young children and who pay attention to things like "calendars" and the proper sequence of holidays...
I must confess, I am a full-fledged member of the "Covert Early Christmas Decorators Club" or CECDC (say that 5x fast...c'mon try it!) ;-)

Yes, our tree is up already (artificial, of course), the stockings are out, the Christmas village is set out and a great mound of green garland sets on my counter waiting to be wrapped around the banister.
DH set the timer to light up the tree for only a couple hours a day so far and suggested that I close the blinds when the lights go on "so the neighbors don't think we're weird".
Hmm...yeah, it really would concern me if the neighbor who uses a leaf blower on his roof thinks that I am weird...

Anyways, DH keeps asking me to check and see if other people have decorated for Christmas yet on my drives to see my parents.
Today, I visited with my family to celebrate my Dad's birthday and on the drive home I remembered to look for decorations.
I saw a few! I did!...behind curtains and in the back parts of houses.
Yes, Christmas lights concealed behind curtains and blinds, others like us....the ever-elusive early holiday revelers.
The secret underground of Christmas.
We're out there, and we're just waiting for

Shiloh's favorite game now is handing me an imaginary present that I pretend to unwrap and exclaim over while she beams in pride at finding me the perfect gift, and then I hand her an invisible gift and on it goes...Vivi even plays. :)

Table Talk

We bought a dining set! Yay!
This was supposed to be our Anniversary present to ourselves, but now it will be Anniversary/Christmas present I think, especially since our Anniversary was way back in July!
It's definitely time too, we accepted a free second-hand table when we moved into our first house, then we put folding chairs around it to "make do".
Two busy working people, then two children coming along, then moving...and just life in general and replacing it with a "real" set was pushed pretty low on our lists of priorities.

I am excited now though!
The table we chose has a bench on one side, so I just priced and ordered a cushion to fit it. Because of the design of the bench though I'll probably have to sew up some ties to attach the cushion to the bench...we're also thinking of using some rubber backing to prevent the cushion from slipping around, but as I have neither bench nor cushion in my hands at the moment it's hard to figure out just yet.

The furniture store had a large flatscreen television that was playing some type of coral reef and tropical aquarium footage.
Shi loved it! She chattered non-stop!
"wat's dat? wat's dat? Oooh, Nemo!!" (there were some clown fish)
There was also a part where the various fish were attacking a crab, DH and I were looking at each other, thinking this is a rather violent aquarium video, and Shiloh started giggling in glee. "dey eatin' crab! haha! Ooh, dey eatin' crab!"

I am now working on a scarf to match the hat that I knitted for Shiloh. It will be the same red variegated yarn as the hat with black flower accents. Cute! (if I do say so myself) ;-)

Vivian has started climbing on everything, she's getting taller so that means she's able to climb on more things. Ugh, it's rather heart-stopping to turn around and finding her standing on top of something!
She's pretty terrified of the vacuum cleaner though. I try to vacuum during their naps since I know she's scared. We have a bagless vacuum so yesterday I took it all apart and washed all of the filters and various pieces.
I had the vacuum sitting in the kitchen while the filters dried, and once Vivi saw it was there she wouldn't walk into the kitchen at all the entire time the vacuum was there.
Cleaning the vacuum was a pain, it made me think maybe changing bags isn't so bad?
Then all these pieces come apart for cleaning, but by the time they dried I had forgotten how they all fit back together.
So I kept putting it together in various configurations but there were these two odd pieces. Hmm...I knew they were in there before so maybe if I turn this doohickey or maybe these pieces fit together?
I kept at it until I fit all the pieces back in without aid of a hammer or glue....then put the vacuum away and decided maybe DH should be the next one to vacuum...uh yep.
(BTW: He did vacuum today and it worked fine, so ta da!)

Not Me, Monday!

Yay, Not Me Monday is back! If you haven't been following Stellan's story (his Mother is the creator of Not Me Mondays) it has been remarkable.
God has worked an amazing miracle in this baby boy. :)
Let's see we did not buy more fish to keep our "lonely" single fish company...only to find out that our first fish is quite aggressive and was not looking for company but rather wanted to practice his piranha impression on the new fish!
(he is now in solitary confinement...without possibility of parole)
I would never insist on having the treadmill set up and ready for me to exercise, and then let it collect dust and serve as a toy storage area....No, Not Me!
Shaking out my couch covers, does not make me extremely thankful that I have couch covers...No, my kiddos are neat and tidy children, and me too!
I do not sincerely wish that Vivian would find a lovey she'll stop carrying around the door snake.
While making "Blueberry Boy Bait", I did not attempt to whip the egg whites by hand because I didn't want to dirty more dishes by using the mixer. Not Me!
Of course I would realize that washing a few more dishes was not as tiring as trying to whip egg whites to peaks by hand!

Do you hear what I hear?

I've been quite busy the past few days.
I sewed up three more sets of curtains for the house. These were very long curtains so I needed to lay out the material on the floor for measuring since my tables weren't long enough, and that meant I had the added task of keeping the girls off of the fabric while I was measuring too!

I sewed up curtains for one of the bathrooms yesterday, and after DH came out of the room I asked him what he thought. *ahem* Typical guy, he hadn't even noticed!

I made curtains for the other bathroom today during Shiloh's nap. First time she went in there she said "oooh, new curtains! bery nice!" Then she even noticed the brand new towel I had hung up, and commented on that. I love that girl! :)

We took the girls to Lowe's the other day, and while DH was looking at boring orange & black, dusty electrical appliance-type things....I took the girls over to the Christmas department.
The girls were so awestruck! There were many blow-up decorations that moved and had fake snow on display, Moving and singing carolers as big as Vivian.
They had a Christmas City...not a little village, there was even a miniature working Ferris wheel and merry-go-round!
It was amazing! The girls also loved the Disney Princess decorations, they had globes where a princess spun and played music, and ones where fake glittery snow swirled around them.
As soon as I saw the girls excitement and saw that their Daddy saw their excitement too....I knew he wasn't going to be able to wait much longer to start pulling out the decorations.

Honestly, I was tempted to pull them out myself...the girls were just so enthralled by it all. :)

Ta da! We now have our Christmas village set Ferris wheels though.

The stores were playing Christmas songs already too and Shi kept asking me "you hear it? you hear Crickiss?" lol

Despite her painful teething, Vivi is really starting to eat more. She gets her bib down from her highchair to let me know she wants to eat. I gave her part of a grilled ham and cheese sandwich right now and she is dismantling it....

She doesn't talk very much, but she really surprises me with what she understands and her ways of communicating.
I told her to wait because I needed a tissue first then I would help her with something, and she grabbed her nose and started making blowing noises!
I commented that I had to move the pumpkins and she ran into the next room to the pumpkins and started moving them.
Vivi was play cooking yesterday, and she stirred the spoon in the pot and then she'd blow on the spoon, then stir again, then blow, then pretend to taste.

*Then she pretended to serve her food onto her foot...but lets not go there. ;)

Today she was coughing, then started fake coughing and tried to pat her own back. lol. The farthest she could reach was more like patting her behind, so then she started patting her belly instead. cough, cough, pat, pat. :)

I tried a new recipe this morning "Blueberry Boy Bait" Not that we're looking at all to lure or bait any boys here! But it is a delicious recipe...though the girls don't care for it since they're not fans of blueberries.

Here is a picture of the hat I knitted for Shiloh. The flowers are crocheted and they took me a ridiculously long time to make since I kept making mistakes. lol.

Parenting at the break of dawn

Shiloh woke up around 4:30 this morning calling for me and needing to use the bathroom.
I helped her with that, tucked her back in bed and climb back into my own bed.
"Is she asleep already?" DH asks.
"I don't know, I just put her back in her bed." I reply.
DH: "She let you walk away?"
Me: "I don't hear anything so that's good. But if you hear anything, I don't want to hear it."

Good thing I went right back to sleep too, so I was well-rested when Vivi started screaming an hour later, which was surely teething-related.
DH: "Just put her on the floor and let her play."
Hmm, the dark floor of our bedroom? I'm pretty sure she didn't wake up because she was bored....
I brought her downstairs and finally got her to fall asleep on the couch with me...just about in time for Shiloh to wake up for the day.
Sleep...uh yeah, who needs that? highly overrated...

This morning Vivian figured out if she pinches her nose, she can make a snorting noise. She thinks it is the funniest thing and really it is quite hysterical.
She also managed to get her leg stuck in her little lawn chair today. She was standing there with her leg through the seat of the chair, and she's swinging her stuck leg wildly while making mad noises.
Reminded me so much of a mad cat, when they're really upset and will just sit there but their tails will be swishing furiously. lol

She fell down and apparently hurt her hand earlier today too. She came running over to me whining with her hand outstretched. She then tapped her hand on my lips and ran off giggling and happily playing again.
It's one of those developments of motherhood - Mother's instinct, wider hips, and magical healing kisses...

Countdown to Criss-tiss

We took the girls out grocery shopping this morning.
I was getting low on a lot of baking staples especially.
Shi really gets into shopping now, rearranging the contents of the cart, sitting on the butter, commenting on the coldness of the frozen products. Helping to put items on the conveyor belt is probably her favorite part though, and Vivi is usually in charge of holding/dropping/chewing/crumpling my shopping list.

DH and I were pleasantly surprised to find a kitchen set on sale at the store too, it was a really good price so we picked one up for the girls for Christmas.
Shiloh was so so so excited! She talked and thanked us non-stop in the store, the whole ride home and until her Daddy finally put the box away.

"Thank you Mommy! Thank you Mama! Thank you DaDa!"

"I gonna make coffee, I gonna make cake!"

"I love Criss-tiss!"

She was just so incredibly excited and kept hugging us too. It was just too precious!
It's making me anticipate Christmas myself, seeing her face now I can't wait to see her reaction on Christmas morning.
I'm surprised at how much it takes me back to that same feeling of excitement and anticipation I had as a child, regarding the whole holiday season. I feel it all again the same just looking at her sweet face. :)

She even wanted to watch "White Criss-tiss" tonight and was singing along with the songs. :)

She was so excited the other day when I let her pick out a simple toy at the Dollar Store that two other shoppers there commented on just how happy she was. :-D

Vivian gets caught up in Shi's excitement too, though she doesn't quite understand yet and still doesn't feel great with teething.
I can feel several points of one molar that have cut through (hopefully to stay) and she has a big blister on the gum of the other side where that molar should be coming through...eventually.
She's chewing on e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! I even had to confiscate some of Shiloh's toys that had survived so far but Vivi's latest bout of chewing was starting to leave marks on even those.

We were reading through the Sunday paper this morning as a family, even Vivian had a flier that she'd flip through. Shiloh pounced on a toy catalog and chattered about every little thing she spied in there. She's turning into quite a chatterbox.

One of Shi's favorite games is to make a noise and have me guess what the noise is. Vivi loves this too, especially if she recognizes meowing or barking, then she'll start making those noises too and crawling around. Tonight, Shi was making some strange squawking noise.

I couldn't guess what it was...Shiloh informed me that it was a Turkey. okay.

Then she made an odd tweeting noise....that was a butterfly.

Then she made no noise at all and asked me what it was....not a clue.

That was a tree.

Oh, she is a character.

Bugs bug us!

I'm up, well I and the girls are up, particularly early this morning.
Shiloh woke me by calling me...repeatedly.
She didn't fall back asleep like I was hoping, instead she got louder which threaten to wake the rest of the family.
I stumbled blearily to her room, cold bare feet and no bathrobe, my foggy mind didn't think to grab those.
"Good morning! Good morning, Mama!" she greeted me like some cheery sprite.
I blink at the darkness trying to make out her shape.
"It's not morning, it's nighttime." I mutter.
Shi looks at the clock on her dresser, "It 9 and 12"
"It's six o'clock, Shiloh"
"Oh. Good morning, Mama!"
"Good morning, Shiloh"

So I am up making coffee, making breakfasts, and paying bills before 7am. though I think paying bills should probably wait until at least my second cup of joe. probably.

My sister's birthday is tomorrow, Happy Birthday!
I haven't yet decided how old I'm going to let her be, you know just that right number that doesn't make me as the older sister sound too old. ;-)

We were watching some different wildlife on television yesterday and they showed some Madagascar cockroaches. Shiloh did not like those at all!
She kept saying "i no touch bug! i no touch bug!"
She is definitely not a bug girl. She still freaks out about fuzz or dust bunnies...and the other day she almost fell over trying to get away from a gnat.
Hmm, wonder where she gets her irrational fear of insects from?? any clues? lol

Feed me!

DH is back, safely. :)
The girls followed him around the house the first night just saying "Dada, Dada, Dada!"
I am proud of myself for handling everything on my own for awhile. Gathering and putting out the trash, finding things in the basement...

My husband thinks it's really funny that I leaned the ironing board against the door at added security, lol.
Guard the door, Ironing Board....good boy!

I went out to vote this morning, I had a new polling place to go to since we moved and also a new way of voting but I figured it all out. :)
It was a little hard for DH to distract Vivi long enough for me to slip out the door this morning, and she greeted me with "Mama, Mama, Mama" the second she saw I came back. lol.

The girls are still adjusting to the time they have me up an hour earlier, but Shi is also telling me she's sleepy and asking for her bed an hour earlier so it's not too rough.

Shiloh also must be going through some growth spurt. I've been hearing non-stop "I sooo hungry!" and she eats and eats. She does turn down foods that she doesn't feel like though, but it seems like she'll eat all day of a variety.
The other day when we were out shopping. Shi started with the "I soo hungry! Mama, I sooooo hungry!" pitiful pleading.
I had brought just my purse with me but I had a granola bar in there. She ate the entire thing herself....then started with the "Mama, I sooo hungry!" again.
I also had a little bag of fruit snacks but she didn't want those so through out the rest of my shopping trip, I had this tiny pleading girl in my cart.
Mind you, it was only about 11am and she had a full breakfast before we left....and how big is her stomach anyways??
She must really have a hollow leg, there is no other place to put all this food that she consumes!
I can picture my next shopping trip...with my tiny purse, and a duffel bag containing just Shiloh's mid-morning snack. lol.

Sing me a lullaby :)

Sleepless nights lead to migraine days. :(
Vivi was tired too this morning, since she's part of the reason for my sleep-deprived night. She freaked out when the sweater I put on her this morning was too big and she couldn't find her hands....then instantly started giggling when I folded her sleeves back and Ta da! her hands reappeared.

Yeah, we don't function so well or happily without sleep. ;-)

She took a very long nap this morning which was so nice for me and my pounding head.

I had to put Shiloh in time out once today. She made a huge mess playing with her food with her hands.
She knew she was in trouble too, I think it was one of those...I know it's bad but it's just sooo fun! type deals.

A few seconds into her time out she starts calling me "Mama? Mama?"
"Yes, Shiloh?"
"Mama, can I have a book?"

Hmm, yeah and may I get you some chocolate milk and a cookie? Oh wait, I'm busy cleaning up your mess!
I guess she thought her punishment was a little boring.

Later we were playing hide 'n seek and Vivian peeks into my hiding spot and starts growling at me, lol.
When I tell her "shhh", she takes her soggy toy out of her mouth and tries to put it in my mouth, giggling.
She's trouble. ;-)

Tonight, during her bath she was trying to say "bubbles" she held her hand out to me and said "bub-bah, bub-bah" and she wanted me to put bubbles in her hand. :)

I've mentioned how Shiloh just loves the show, "Dancing with the Stars" well tonight we were singing a whole bunch of songs together from "Jingle Bells" to "ABC's" and I started singing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and I had to stop and listen to Shiloh singing.
Oh, so funny!!! She sings...
"Twinkle, Twinkle...Dancing with Star
Twinkle, Twinkle....Dancing with Star!"

Potty training 2

I worked with Vivian on potty training today.
Potty training is so not fun. I wish I had some better tricks up my sleeve, especially considering I just went through all this with Shiloh back in March.
It's a bit different since Vivi is much younger, doesn't talk much, and really doesn't have a treat that she desires.
So I just did a lot of praise and comforting and changing of clothes and scrubbing of floors.
Vivi does have the benefit of having an older sister as an example, and that seems to help.
I brought the chair out into the living room, a more central location, had a cartoon on the TV and I had a hard time keeping Shiloh off the potty!
She thought it was great to sit there and watch her movie, and kept telling me "I potty trainin' "
Yeah....where was that desire 7 months ago, when it really would have helped me??? Now she thinks it's fun?!

I also dug out the parts I need to convert Vivi's crib to a toddler bed. I think I will still wait a bit since she's very, very clingy these days with teething her molars and that doesn't make it a great time to change her bed.
It's also a big deal because the crib converts to a day bed, so that would have to be dismantled and reassembled in Shiloh's room for her and then Vivi would get Shi's toddler bed which is much lower to the ground and has half rails.
So there is potential for Shi's sleep to be disturbed by the change also, but at least I found the step one is done. :)
I'm not pushing Vivi into a toddler bed, she doesn't sleep for very long in her crib anyways but neither of my girls liked the crib much and it's much easier to get them out of my bed and into a toddler bed than into a crib.

I gave Vivian Tylenol before she went to bed last night and that made a much more peaceful night than we've had yet this week.
I found that pacing the floor at night with a fussy 24lb baby made me miserable the next day with sciatic pain...not to mention, how tired I was.
But this morning, the pain was totally gone. Double yay!

Today is rainy and chilly. I probably should put the trash out...but it's rainy and chilly.
Much nicer to sit inside with a cup of tea, and blog, and besides, working on potty-training Vivi means less diapers in the trash so it'll hold til tomorrow, right? ;-)

Not Me, Monday!

After a recent trip to Walmart, I did not come home to find that I had worn my jeans with the hole in the knee while out shopping.
These were also not the same jeans I had placed in my closet a while back until I could decide what to do with them...and wearing them out in public was not one of the options either!

I also do not find it super-cute when Shiloh calls me "Dear" instead of "Mama",
"Dear! Dear! you hear it?? wats dat??"

There certainly are not FOUR weekly newspaper puzzles sitting on my countertop. I like my counters clean and definitely would not keep accumulating puzzles instead of realizing that I do not have time to do them and just toss them...No, Not Me!

I also would not let my 3 year old feed our pet fish, it makes a huge mess...what could I be thinking? No, Not Me!

I always make healthy breakfasts for my family. I would never serve them icing-coated cinnamon rolls from a tube! Not Me!

And I certainly would not be so nervous about the cinnamon roll pop canisters, that I hold them far enough away from my face that the neighbors are more likely to get injured than myself if it popped too hard. No, I am a reasonable adult.

Also after placing all the rolls that I do not feed my family into the pan, I wouldn't then read the instructions...which for some reason are always ripped apart by the popping of the canister...and find out I needed to grease the pan first.

When an older woman stopped me yesterday at the grocery store to chat about the girls, I was not so distracted by her vast amounts of nose hair that I cannot remember another single feature about her. Noooo, I am polite and always remember to maintain eye contact!

I also did not have to check myself in the mirror before I brought the trash to the curb....No, certainly Not Me!

Maybe it's Maybelline...

I almost put mascara on my lips this morning.
Sleep-deprived Mommies do not make good make-up artists.
Sleep-deprived Mommies do not make good palettes either, that's when you look at your little container of concealer and wish that you had some concealer for your hair, and your clothes, and your hands etc.

Vivian fussed most of the night. :(
She'd fall asleep, then I'd fall asleep, then she'd start fussing, which led to her wanting to nurse, then she'd fall asleep again, and repeat every hour.
Then all that nursing leads to her leaking through her diaper...but there does seem to be some progress on one of her molars this morning AND she ate 12 (yes, I counted) Penne for lunch, which is a lot for her!

I took the girls to the grocery store today since I needed to pick up a newspaper and some staples.
Not one but TWO older women came up to us and asked me if the girls were twins. One lady quickly realized that they weren't though.
They look like sisters but not twins, not yet anyways. I mean their eyes are different shades, even their skin coloring is different, and Shiloh's hair reaches half-way down her back while Vivi's is just below her ears.
I got stuck with the squeaky cart too. By the time I realized it I already had both girls settled in it and Vivi buckled in and had sanitized it with those handy wipes next to the entrance, so we just squeaked our way through the store.
I'd have to say Sunday is not a great day to do grocery shopping.
The store and parking lot were pretty crowded with shoppers, while the shelves had empty spots.

Shiloh was such a helper. She carried my purse and a light bag from the car to the house...and since I was carrying all 24lbs. of Vivian, a Gallon of milk, and another bag of miscellaneous groceries while trying to get my key in the lock, it really helped a lot! :)

A lick of this, A lick of that.

I went to Wal-Mart today, trying to get a start on my seasonal shopping.
I was a little too ambitious though.
I should have limited myself to just shopping for 2 or 3 people...that would've been easier.
The day started out overcast and chilly but warmed up to be pretty decent.
Another mistake was bringing a teething baby with me, but given the fact that she's been teething since...December! I don't have a whole lot of choices in that regard.
Vivi was just chewing on whatever she could, and drooling and her nose was runny. Thankfully she didn't chew on anything "cart related"...ew, ew, ew! and I had remembered to bring Tylenol, Anbesol, and some chewy toys along also.
Excuse me, teething toys...she's not a puppy, though my house might look like she is. ;-)

I did have to take both girls into the bathroom with me because Vivi was getting quite fussy and they have a nursing bench in there. Shi sat next to me chattering away. "Hi Mama, Hi Baby, Hi Shiloh. Mama you feedin' Baby? Awww, Cute Baby! Hi Mama!" and so on.
Then chattering in the car on the way home.
"Mama, I want *present*. Mama, I want *present*"
"You can't have *present* it's for *person* for Christmas"
"Mama, I want Crisstiss, Mama.
Mama, Shiloh Crisstiss!
Mama, I want Shiloh Crisstiss!"

Yes, Shiloh says Mama a lot....a whole lot. But actually she's learning to put people's names in her conversations.
She also is repeating me tons. It's neat to see her learning to put sentences together better, but it does drive one crazy at times.
This non-stop echoing from the moment she wakes.

Vivian's gums are HUGE, right where her bottom two molars should be popping through, but instead of cutting through they just keep swelling and swelling.
Poor baby.
She's really only licking foods now and that's it.
She licked one spoonful of yogurt then handed me the bowl. She licked a cookie then tossed it on the floor. She just licked the cheese and crackers I offered her.
She licked the cereal I gave her then dropped it on my freshly vacuumed carpet and (of course) stepped on it.
Vivi runs to the refrigerator and pats it. I pull out her juice, she shakes her head no. I pull out her milk cup, she shakes her head no.
I open the freezer and pull out a frozen washcloth. She claps her hands and says "ta da!".
Teething is the only thing on her mind, hopefully once these teeth do pop through her appetite will increase.

On the bright side, this morning Shiloh was playing with Play-doh (before I vacuumed, and the main reason I vacuumed!) ;-) and Vivi fussed and fussed to play with her.
Actually Vivi played really well with the Play-doh and I think the main reason she didn't try to take a taste is because of her teeth.
She played with it just like she plays with all her food instead of eating it, yep.

Summer day in October

Today was such a beautiful day. Sunny and it even reached 70 degrees. :)
I washed and opened every window in the house...I was hoping for a chance to wash them before winter sets in.
The girls had to have their own cloths to help me clean too. Shiloh loves to wash off my piano...which is helpful since it tends to be a dust magnet!
I'm not sure how much washing Vivi did, I just know she shredded her piece of paper towel and that was quite a mess but (lucky Me!) Shiloh cleaned up most of it.

I let Shiloh take her nap an hour late so she could just enjoy the sunshine too. :)
It was so very nice to sit in the porch, knitting, while the girls played with their toys.
Okay, that would be the ideal situation...
Actually I sat down to knit...and Shiloh freaked out about a fly in the porch, Vivi pulled on my yarn, Shiloh got stuck under her toy picnic table, Vivi pooped and stunk up the porch, I changed Vivi's diaper, we all shared an ice cream cone, I wiped the girls faces, Shiloh had to use the potty and needed a drink, and so on.
But it was still nice and I was able to get a few rows of knitting done too. ;-)

I'm making a winter hat for Shiloh and I'm really loving the variegated red yarn I found for it. I have hopes to get a few projects done over the next couple months but we'll see how it goes. :)

I wanna eat Crisstiss!

I was talking to Shiloh about Christmas the other day.
I asked her what she would like for Christmas, her answer...
"I wanna eat Crisstiss!"

She's such a character!!
We were talking about last Christmas to see if she remembered anything about the holiday, and the next morning she came running down and looked at where the tree was placed last year and asked "where's Crisstiss?"
So she does seem to remember a little.

She loves to tell me what Vivian needs too when she's crying.
"Mama, baby cryin' she need a nap!"
"Mama, baby need milk"
"Mama, Bibian's teef hurt she need medsin"

Vivian can't get away with anything either, it's constant
"Mama, Bibian touchin"
"Mama, Bibian makin a MESS"

It's actually helpful for the most part...though I'm sure Vivian disagrees!

They really need to make some Miracle Gro for teeth, poor Vivi has been battling these molars for months! Just something to make them pop through fast and one time, not this cutting through then the gum swelling up so they have to cut through again stuff!
Yesterday and today were particularly bad, she just wants me to carry her all day long! When I go out of her sight it's the worst, I had to mop the upstairs bathroom and she screeched the entire time....but the bright side is that I knew exactly where she was and what she was doing!
Thankfully she loves chewing on frozen washcloths so those keep her happy for awhile.

I found some clips of the old Pink Panther cartoons and the girls both love them so much. They both laugh at the same time, and at the same thing so it's really cute.

Sad day

My father-in-law lost his battle with cancer yesterday.
He fought it much longer than the Doctors anticipated.
I am glad he got to meet the girls when he was healthy enough, especially since that was a desire of his.
It'll be nice to be able to tell Vivian when she is older, that she brought a smile to his face with her 1-year old antics.

DH is doing okay. He has a lot of obligations for the funeral, being the oldest son in a Chinese family.
He wasn't too close to his Dad, but in some ways it seems that makes the loss a bit harder since there are no more chances to build a relationship or mend bridges.

My Drama Queens

I know I have said that my daughters are dramatic before.
It comes with an active imagination, I guess.
I'm not sure where they get that's not like I have an ounce of drama in me...or anything. ;-)

Anyways, Vivi hasn't really been thrilled with bathtime since her PITT (poo-in-the-tub) incident.
As soon as I put her in the tub tonight, she started fussing.
Not a big deal to me since she often does that since the PITT thing, so I just started washing Shiloh up as usual and tried to distract Vivi with bubbles and toys.
Then I noticed Vivian was holding her feet oddly. I saw there were bits of black fuzz from her socks floating around her feet so I figured she was freaked about that, thinking the fuzz was poo or something.
I washed Vivi up and she fine for that, then I usually let the girls splash a bit while I straighten/clean things around the bathroom, but Vivi started sobbing so I took her out and got her dressed instead.

While I am dressing Vivian, Shiloh suddenly notices for the first time that there is some fuzz floating in the water.
She starts trying to move away from the fuzz and says "Mama, messy! Mama, messy!"
I said "Don't worry, it's not poop...It's just fuzz".
Big mistake.

In case you don't remember (like I didn't at the moment) Shiloh is afraid of fuzz.
She freaked.
She was trapped IN the tub, alone WITH FUZZ!!!!!!!
Tears, hysterics, trying to escape from the terrible fuzz....which was chasing her around the tub, very similar to the PITT incident...yep.

Probably wasn't really comforting that I was trying to reassure her that she was fine, while I laughed hysterically because it was just such a ludicrous situation!
If you don't laugh, you'd cry at the craziness.
Both of my daughters chased out of the bathtub and sent into hysterics by...TOE FUZZ!

This certainly is not in a child-rearing manual. Afraid of the dark...certainly.
Afraid of strangers...definitely. But the chapter on Toe Fuzz phobia...nope.

I guess I need to add "defuzz toes" to my bathtime preparations from now on.

One of those days...

Ever have one of those days.
You know, the one where your three year old doesn't fall asleep during her nap time so instead she falls asleep at 5pm while eating her dinner....then sleeps for THREE hours so now who knows when her bedtime will be...

The kind of day that you see a bowl of mashed potatoes sitting in your fridge and decided to try your hand at frying potato pancakes, only to fill the house with smokey haze.
The kind of day that you are both thankful the smoke detector didn't go off and concerned that the smoke detector didn't go off.
Then when you take the hot pan off of the stove and put it on a wooden trivet....the pan burns the trivet, damaging it.

The baby wakes up...either because of the noise of your frantic "Ooh! Ooh!'s" or because of the smell of smoke.
You put the baby back to bed.
You light some scented candles. You scrub at everything with a greasy film...which is everything!

The baby wakes up and discovers a slippery area on the kitchen floor and laughs as she slips across it successfully, then cries when she falls down, then laughs, then cries.
You wash the slippery floor.
Baby discovers the wet area on the floor and laughs as she slips across it successfully, then cries when she falls down, then laughs, then cries.

You finish washing everything up, make a cup of tea in the microwave. Think about making a grilled cheese but today is not a good day to go near the evil stove. Opt instead for a muffin with jelly.

Yep, those kinds of days are bad.
Even worse would be, being married to a chef who can and will tell you exactly what you did wrong.

But then at least you'll find another use for the frying pan...

M&M's are the best "medsin"

The girls and I had a nice Columbus day, visiting with my family.
Shi was anxious to visit her Grandma.
She kept saying "I ready to go. I want to see Gamma. I like Gamma." :)
Enjoyed some absolutely delicious chili there too!

It was quite cold this morning but once the sun hit the porch this afternoon, it warmed up to 77 degrees in there and was really nice.
The girls and I played house out there for some time.
I also made a couple loaves of Honey Oatmeal bread. It is a yeast bread which I am rather new to dealing with, but this recipe doesn't require kneading, a definite plus to me.
I just know as soon as I dive into kneading bread, someone will need to use the potty or something.
Anyways it was excellent hot from the oven and slathered with butter, Vivi had a taste as well, but Shiloh was too busy eating pretend cake and ice cream from her playsets.

This afternoon, Shiloh was climbing down from one of the dining room chairs and fell off instead and smacked her cheek on the window seat.
I don't think I've ever seen a bruise form quite so fast! :(
She let me hold ice in a cloth to it for quite awhile so I'm hoping it will heal quickly.
She did say that the mini M&M's I gave her made her cheek feel better...but I also gave her some Tylenol in case the candy wasn't strong enough, those are two things that must be in every Mom's First-Aid kit. Definitely.

I asked Shiloh if she wanted to watch a movie tonight and offered her the options of an Elmo movie, a Barbie movie, or one of my musicals "Kiss Me, Kate" and she chose the musical.
Such a girl after my own heart! :)

Vivian has one molar poking through the gum now, oddly enough it's on the opposite side of the molar she's been teething the longest.
Talk about dragging out the pain of teething!

She now says "Ta da!" about everything. She picked up all the throw rugs and put them in a pile "Ta da!", She pulled all the laundry off the drying racks and threw them on the floor "Ta da!"
I asked if she pooped in her diaper...."Ta da!" she replied.
She also is saying "dih-dah" for "Thank you", every time I hand her something she says "dih-dah".
It's so cute.

Some photos from our very chilly, but sunny Sunday.

This is what I see next to my laptop on our dining room table...mug of tea for me, tissues for the girls. (the girls are more perky than yesterday, but we're dealing with constant runny noses)

My african violets are blooming again for me! Both of them!

So sweet of them to blossom again since our trip occurred right when they were blooming before. I'm rather surprised that they are blooming again so quickly though.

I still can't bear to put away the hummingbird know, just in case there is a hungry hummingbird still around.

There is a freeze warning tonight though, so I probably should get to it before the feeder cracks.

Miss Vivi is wandering everywhere in her cute slippers from Singapore.

We still have balloons drifting eerily around the house...this one isn't floating so well anymore, but since the last birthday party was nearly a month ago...

View that I wanted to get a picture of in full Autumn glory. Hmm...not quite what I was thinking of.

Our porch door. I'm still lovin' my window crayons. **no art critics please! ;-)

The girls' playhouse and do you see Shiloh anywhere?

like maybe that blue lump behind the black chair?

I'll make the next game of "Where's Shiloh?" easier...

Yes, that is my scary troll pumpkin too! It's turning orange and looking more pumpkin-y and somewhat less troll-y.

The jury is still out on how much it has improved though...I mean would The Hulk be any less angry if he turned orange instead of green?

Not such a spring chicken...

I had a busy day yesterday.

A lot of cleaning, carrying this and that, pulling out my winter clothes and putting away my summer ones...not a moment too soon since there is snow (off and on) in the forecast and I was getting tired of just pairing a hoodie with all my shirts for warmth.

While Shi took her nap I decided to adjust the television antenna since the stations weren't coming in too well recently.

It wasn't too big a deal, just involved standing on a chair (I don't know where DH put my step stool) with my arms up moving the antenna until the stations came in clearer.
Then I noticed that the girls had dropped two of their videos behind the entertainment of Shi's favorites included.
So I leaned to pick up the movies, having to twist my body around the TV, and stretching because they were just out of reach when I suddenly pinched a nerve in my neck.
Pain from my ears to my shoulders!
I had a sudden thought of having to call my DH to pull me out from behind the embarrassing would that be?
So I just loosened my knees enough to sag to the floor trying desperately not to move anything above my waist.
Then I was finally able to move my head and neck a little and release the pinch.
That ached the rest of the day and night, but not bad enough to need Tylenol or anything.

Today my sciatica kicks in. Some how I must have triggered that yesterday.
It developed and plagued me during my pregnancy with Vivian, so now once in awhile it twinges.
But today it was aching.

**Now it's Saturday and my sciatica is still aching. Shiloh had me up most of the night, she was just whining and whining and said her head hurt a few times.
In the wee hours of the morning she starts sniffling.
This morning both girls have colds. Runny noses and sniffling. :(
But Mama is actually wide-awake! Of course this second pot of coffee seems to be helping too.

Did I mention that my coffee pot made coffee at midnight the other day? I haven't been using the timer lately so I never set it, but the coffee maker automatically sets to 12:00 if there is no time selected and the timer button must have been accidentally hit at some point. Ta da! Coffee at midnight!

I think it's nap time....

I'll try to keep this short and sweet since I have a migraine that Excedrin is not touching and I feel like I'm coming down with a cold. :( I took some Airborne but I think it's too late...

I took Shiloh to the Doctor's early this morning just for her Flu shot. The office was really quiet since the Dr. was off and it was just a nurse visit so I asked if they had time that they could weigh and measure her as well.
I really like the nurse there, she's very sweet and she was the reason we were able to get today's appt and not have to put Shiloh on a waiting list for the Flu vaccine (regular Flu).
The nurse told the receptionist to let Shiloh have an appt. today, She's also very pregnant with her third daughter, so we like to chat about girly things at our appts. ;-)
Anyways, Shi has gained 4lbs and grown 4" in a year. That's pretty good....but Vivi is catching up to her very rapidly!
I think they might get a lot of twin comments in the future like my sister and I did.

Shiloh even watched as the nurse give her the shot and she didn't so much as jump! The nurse put a "Garfield" sticker on her leg and Shi just said "Ooh, cat!" and that was it.
I didn't know she would react but I wouldn't imagine in a million years that it would go *that* smoothly!

She did need Tylenol this afternoon though, she was out of sorts and out of character for her and it was right at the time that the first dose would have wore off too.
Vivian's molars are bothering her today and she's crabby and overly dramatic so nobody wanted to nap....well, except for Mommy!

Yay, finally got them both down. Shi fell asleep reading books in her room and without her around Vivi was bored enough to give in to her exhaustion.
Now, Mommy's turn for a siesta!
