Crafts and Curtains

Shiloh received a beading craft kit for Christmas, we finally opened it up.
It's a bit of a pain...beads everywhere. I have to keep the beads on the little frames and iron them forever to get them to stick together. I burn my hands.
But...we did make some cute things.
Every member of our family made something.
I finished the new kitchen my clearance Valentine fabric!
I use a simple button and embroidery floss to hold them open.
They look so pretty from outside too!

This is our new bathroom curtain I sewed up yesterday. I love the floral pattern so much.
This window is right above the toilet (not the best placement for either) so the curtain has to be either hand-made or hemmed to the right size.
It took me forever to get around to doing a few simple curtains.
I'm supposed to tackle a few dresses for the girls next, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for those! ha!

Taking the Divas to the Dentist

Shiloh had her appointment with the Pediatric Dentist this past week.
Boy, am I ever glad I decided to take her there instead of having the work done at the local Dentist.
It was well worth the hours of driving!
Plus, I was able to call and get Vivian in for her teeth cleaning at the same time.
Go Mama! ;-)
First of all, they found ONE small cavity...not the several that the other Dentist mentioned.
It's also so small that they're not even going to do anything now...and possibly the tooth will fall out before it ever needs anything done.
They just gave us a prescription for a stronger toothpaste to help keep the cavity small.
Soo...if I had just stuck with the local Dentist, poor Shiloh would have gone through unnecessary dental work.
I am so not cool with that.
Needless to say, the drive is worth it to me and my girls will not be going back to the Dentist here.
The Pediatric Dentist also confirmed that some marks on Shi's teeth were from when her teeth were forming, which is what I had originally been told by her old Dentist.
But then suddenly they changed their mind this last time and started saying the marks were caused by drinking too much juice.
What?! The girls rarely drink juice at all so I knew that totally bogus, even Shiloh protested and told the hygienist that I don't let her drink juice.
So anyways it was confirmed...marks not caused by invisible juice.
We can still have tea parties with invisible drinks without fear of rotting our teeth out!
There was another 2nd grader there, a boy, and he was so huge next to Shiloh.
Eek, made me nervous to ever think of her going to a classroom with kids twice her size!
Then it was Vivian's turn, the Dentist immediately commented on her clothes and remarked about what a Fashionista she is.
It's not just me that recognizes her talent, lol! ;-)
Hmm, but was it the Disney Princess Rain boots she wore (on a sunny day) that tipped him off or her collection of multi-color beaded necklaces?
Maybe it was just the whole ensemble!
She had a good appointment as well, just a simple cleaning this time.
Then we had lunch at Cracker Barrel which was so nice since we don't have one locally.
They gave me so much french toast I had enough for breakfast, lunch, and breakfast the next day!
It was yummy too! :)

My Fashionista

How Vivian dresses for a warm spring day.
There were off and on sprinkles, so she had to have her hat!
Also she loves her new shoes and doesn't want them to get she wears them around the house and is still wearing her winter boots outside.

The day that got away...

I have been so bad with time management lately, but today I was especially so.
Hmm...when exactly did I start to lose track of time?
Well, I needed to get Vivian a pair of sneakers because despite the fact that we have a whole bunch of sneakers...none of them fit her.
I start to get the girls all ready to go this morning and it starts raining.
So we wait until it clears up. (What's the rush, right?)
I decided to use the time to fill out a form that had a deadline that was creeping ever closer.
We finally get to the shoe store and Vivian needs to try on every shoe in her size, and the next two sizes on either side because this one is too tight, this one hurts her heel, this one is too big, this one looks like a boy shoe...and so on.
Finally find her a pair that we're both happy with. Not sneakers but they're close enough and very cute and comfortable.
Happy girl with her new shoes.
We come home from the shoe store and it's beautiful.
We have to take advantage of that. :)
Shiloh is riding now with one training wheel. Baby steps!
We drew roads in chalk for all the girls' cars...and a hospital, police station, fire station, Walmart and Target.
Then I gave Vivian a squirt bottle and she ran the car wash...that was a huge hit!
We finally head back inside, and there's laundry to put into the porch to help them dry faster, my phone is flashing at me because the battery is almost dead, and the kids are hungry and thirsty (even though they devoured two popsicles and most of my pasta salad while they were outside).
I made two sandwiches for lunch or dinner...or whatever time of day it was.
The kids eat nonstop anyways so we have many more than just three meals a day here...whenever someone is hungry we make something!
I started making a pie and a pasta bake because I had both meat thawed and a pie crust waiting in the fridge since I was supposed to make those meals the day before but I then I was hit with the worst migraine I've had in a long time.
I put a movie in for the girls and feed them cereal and apple cores from the apples I'm peeling.
Somewhere about the time I'm washing my third sinkful of dishes, I glance at the clock.
"Um...Vivi, are you still awake?"
Vivi's sleepy voice replies "Yeah"
"Okay, it's about half an hour past your bedtime already."
Crud. Baths.
Well, I certainly ran out of time for baths.
Take pie out of oven, put pasta into oven.
Rush to get her ready and tucked into bed.
Take pasta out of oven.
Feed Shiloh (again!) and clean up toys and random messes.
Put Shiloh to bed.
Realize that the trash needs to go out and I haven't cleaned Rory's bin out yet..
Scrub that out it MY bedtime yet?

The proof is in the....

...Reading test!
One thing about Homeschooling is that you know how smart your kids are, you know their strengths and weaknesses but you don't get the bragging rights that other parents seem to flaunt.
"My kid is Student of the Month!"
"My kid got a 100 on their spelling test!"
"My kid got a Good Citizen award!"
I could flaunt those things but it's hollow and dismissed since I'm both Mom and Teacher.
Anyways, some friends were giving their children an online Reading test and sharing the results.
So I tried it with Shiloh and she scored that she's reading at a 5th grade level!!!
5th grade! My little 6 year old!
:) :) :) Woohoo!! :) :) :)
My girls studying today... :)
This is what fascinated them...
Shi's Math book had her adding fractions to make a whole by having her match the child to the kite.
Just such a cute way to teach it! I love it!
The girls have also been such helpers around the house.
Vivian learned to fold socks and she loves to help with the laundry.
Shiloh has started to help with the dishes.
She loves it (and doesn't play the whole time).
When her Daddy said he would wash the dishes this morning, she hopped up on her step stool and said "No Dad, I got it!  ;-)

It was nice to finally have a beautiful spring day!
The sun was deceptive made me want to hang laundry outside.
It made Shiloh want to go outdoor without her coat.
But it was still too chilly for all that.
Still much nicer than the past few days with the rain and gloom.
I had to go to the post office this week and the postman there was so chatty.
So chatty!
I think he was a little bored with the lack of customers due to the rain.
Or maybe he really just liked to talk about his time up in Speculator and how good he was at math?
BTW: He was quite a bit older, so he wasn't flirting...I hope!
DH said "He doesn't talk that much to me?!" ;-D
I just started my garden indoors...though honestly it's too early!
The girls and I went grocery shopping.
I found these pretty place mats. Each one has a different border and they just shout Spring!
We love our front porch. :)
The girls and I spend a lot of time enjoying the porch.
We do everything out there. (Vivian was busy making her shopping list.)
Rory is 2 years old now..and still just as cute as ever. :)

Shiloh was practicing taking pictures of Rory with an old cellphone so I though I'd get a shot or two in as well.
I had to feed Rory to keep her still enough for the camera to capture her....otherwise all the photos were just a blur, she's still fast!
