Rainbow kayaks

Vivian was doing a craft project yesterday.
She's been working on her scissor skills.

Then she asked me "Mom, what color are kayaks?"

"Oh, they can be any color, Dear.
Whatever color people want, really."

"Like blue or pink?"

"Yep"
"Are there Rainbow Kayaks?"
"I'm sure somewhere there are Rainbow Kayaks"

She showed me her finished project.
Her Rainbow "Kayak"

Then I had to explain the difference between "kayaks" and a "yak".
Ha!

My Princess, dressed as "Belle", studying through the microscope. :)

I love her microscope face! lol
As for their cold, Vivi is doing much better.
I bought them some Vitamin C to hopefully boost their immunity.
Shi still has her same-old cough. The month long cough. :(
She's on day 7 of her antibiotics and I was really hopeful the cough would be gone or lessening.
I'm running the vaporizer each night and trying to have her drink a lot of fluids, and also keeping her out of this awful cold weather.
At least she is in good spirits and finally they are both sleeping well.

Sick kids

Most of our day today was video games, boxes of tissues, apple juice, and resting.
We were up ALL night. Seriously.
Shi was in awful shape coughing uncontrollably...which woke up everyone in the house, especially since she sounded like she was going to throw-up any minute. :(
This morning she was so pale, with dark circles under her eyes.
She had a fever, and barely touched her breakfast so when she said that her ear hurt for a second and then went away, I thought it was time to call the Dr.
(Not to say I didn't debate it with the bitter cold and windchill warning, worse to take her out in it or worse to not get her seen?)

But sure enough, ear infection. :(

So we stopped at the drugstore on the way home to pick up her antibiotics and shopped while we waited for the prescription to be filled.
Sparkly Bling nail polish...ah yes, just the thing to perk-up my glamour girls. :)

Also grabbed some Peppermint candies to soothe their sore throats and coughs.
Cough drops are too strong and a candy cane really helped Shi's throat yesterday so I was excited when I saw the Peppermints there!

I think the antibiotics are just what she needed.
Finally...she sleeps. :)
As I was getting Vivian ready for bed, I got the vaporizer refilled and all ready and I couldn't find the cord to plug it in.
Vivian said "It got shoved under the bed."
"Why?"
Vivian: "I was trying to see if I could fit under the bed and accidentally pushed the cord back."
"It didn't work so good Mom, I got my head stuck."

Earlier she had asked me for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, so I asked her if she wanted a half or a whole sandwich.
She said "half" and was watching me as I was making it, then she asked "Mom, where do you put all the other halves of my sandwich when I ask for half?
Are they all in the fridgerator (that's how she says it)? Or do you throw them all out?..That wastes a lot of food, Mom." "Where do they go?"

I love five. :)

January Recap

I can't believe I haven't written a post in most of January!
The girls have a cold now and Vivian kept me up most of the night so I'm in that over-tired, adrenaline-rush phase.
I ran out this morning (in the below-zero wind chills!) to buy strawberries so they can have Belgium waffles with strawberries for breakfast....hopefully that will perk them up.
They did snack on some strawberries already...of course, those suckers don't last long in this house!
Shi has been hit pretty hard by this cold, probably because she wasn't quite over her last one when she caught it.
She came to me this afternoon crying saying that she missed me sooo much when I went to the grocery store.
Um...you mean my quick trip to the store four hours ago?
Mom instinct is to whip out the thermometer and yep. Fever.
:(

We bought this little device awhile ago but this is the first time we've gotten to use it.
It's a plug-in vaporizer/night light by Pediacare.

We put it in our living room today and you really could smell the vapors.
It doesn't produce the steam like a regular vaporizer but it has a Mentholated strip that you put in and the scent goes everywhere.
I like it! :)

Chinese New Year comes at the end of this month.
The girls and I did a little decorating.

Can anyone guess which animal this is going to be the year of? ;-)
We watched the Patriots/Broncos play-offs this past weekend.
It was really not an exciting game which was disappointing.
I think the highlights for me were watching a white horse charge out onto the field, watching Peyton Manning's epic ball juggling at the start of the game (Vivi laughed hysterically the first time and at every replay too, lol), and seeing Tom Brady make his own touch-down.
I missed the 49ers/Seahawks game since I don't get that channel, but of course it has been pretty well covered in the media.

Hopefully it will turn out to be a good Super Bowl. :)
